Combined Internal Medicine –
Dermatology Residency

Several academic medical centers offer combined residency training in internal medicine and dermatology, designed to prepare physicians for board certification in both specialties. This training model is especially valuable for those pursuing careers in inpatient dermatology, complex medical cases, subspecialty care, and clinical research.

Why Dual Training?

Combined residency programs offer five years of integrated clinical training, equipping physicians to diagnose and manage multisystem skin disorders such as connective tissue diseases, autoimmune blistering disorders, cutaneous lymphomas, and skin manifestations of systemic illnesses.

Career Outcomes

Graduates of dual training programs have pursued roles in dermatology hospitalist care, complex outpatient clinics, subspecialty fellowships, academic research, and leadership in dermatology departments.
